About the Organization
Now in its 47th year, Monadnock Music enriches the lives of people of all ages and walks of life, and deepens community by means of excellent and diverse classical music programming throughout the beautiful Monadnock region of New Hampshire. It annually presents a six-week summer festival of solo, chamber and orchestral concerts in intimate New England venues. It seeks an Artistic Director committed to its mission and the region.
About the Position
The Artistic Director will impact the Vision and Mission of Monadnock Music directly in:
Our Creative Strategy:
S/he will develop a creative and innovative musical strategy which builds from and improves community/regional talent, as well as conceive and direct leading edge musical programs of a range in classical musical periods, subgenres, styles and composers.
The Execution of the Creative Strategy & Design:
S/he will recruit, select, and hire musicians for the festival and concerts. Conduct or oversee rehearsals, propose multi-year advanced planning of future festival seasons so as to be able to facilitate timely promotions and budgetary discipline for the MM business model.
Work closely with musicians and all others involved in site and venue offerings to ensure a maximum positive attendee experience, without sacrificing the musical mission and interpretations.
Be the evangelical community voice (written & oral) of audience enrichment content such as: program notes, podcasts, social media, newsletters, pre -performance talks, lectures, symposia, etc.
The leadership of the creative team:
S/he will foster a culture and environment that is conducive to creative development by making creative sessions a “safe” place where all participants are treated with scrupulous professionalism, heard and respected, resulting in superior creative solutions, increasing our attractiveness as a place to work.
Our Patron Management & Development:
Meet with patrons, groups, etc, to speak motivationally on the artistic vision of Monadnock Music. Evangelize so as to excite current and potential patrons and other stakeholders to expand their perceptions of what Monadnock Music can be as an artistic force as well as a community catalyst and unifier
Team with the Executive Director, by continual/timely availability to meeting with our numerous constituencies to maintain and develop: community relations, increased audience development and patron financial support.
Some of what we expect you to bring:
- MA or doctorate in Music or a relevant field;
- At least 6-8 years of leadership experience in classical music organizations or ensembles.
- Exceptional programming skills and range of interests and competencies in many periods and genres of the classical music repertoire.
- Demonstrated superior skills as a musician with proven experience with audience engagement. Must possess exceptional oral and written communication and time management skills, a strong track record of achieving assigned outcomes, a sense of urgency, and a proven ability to work on multiple projects at any given time
- Demonstrated creative competencies: client focus, patron relations, accountability for results, organizational sophistication, ingenuity and communicating ideas
